Jen Pawol has made history as the first female umpire to work a regular-season game in the major leagues. Pawol worked as the first base umpire for Saturday’s first game of a split doubleheader between the Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins. She enjoyed a quiet first inning. Pawol will work third base in Saturday night’s second game of the doubleheader and will be in the spotlight when she calls pitches behind the plate in Sunday’s final game of the series. Marlins manager Clayton McCullough and Braves bench coach Walt Weiss greeted Pawol when lineups were exchanged at home plate.

The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled 25-year-old pitching prospect Juan Burgos, who was acquired in the Eugenio Suarez trade with Seattle, on Saturday before a game against the Colorado Rockies. Arizona, additionally, optioned veteran right-hander Casey Kelly to Triple-A Reno. Burgos —  a six-foot, right-handed pitcher from the Dominican Republic — is the fourth rookie/prospect in the Diamondbacks' active bullpen along with Kyle Backhus, Andrew Hoffmann and Andrew Saalfrank. The Diamondbacks added Burgos, relief prospect Hunter Cranton and first baseman Tyler Locklear from Seattle for Suarez the night before the trade deadline on July 30.

8/9 12:34 PM Jhostynxon Garcia (OF-BOS) Red Sox Prospect 'All In' On Sudden Position Change. Peyton Tolle, the club's top pitching prospect, was promoted from Double-A Portland to Triple-A Worcester. David Sandlin, perhaps the closest prospect in the system to a major league promotion, made a semi-permanent move to the bullpen. Jhostynxon Garcia, the club's top position prospect, has even started taking reps at first base. Garcia's position change is particularly notable given how tremendous he's always looked in the outfield, where he's played above-average defense and slashed .307/.372/.589 with 16 home runs and 49 RBIs since being promoted to play with the WooSox on May 20.
